Naval Architecture

In this role you translate demanding defence requirements into innovative, feasible concept and basic designs. Your calculations and advice form the backbone for safe, high-performance naval ships delivered to international defence clients.

Responsibilities

Tackle technically complex naval architecture challenges for military frigates and naval vessels, applying creativity beyond standard solutions.

Translate client and project requirements into smart, buildable concept and basic designs.

Perform and verify key naval architecture calculations, including:

stability and intact/damage stability

resistance & propulsion / speed–power

seakeeping & motion analyses

weight management and hydro-related assessments

Provide high-level technical advice to naval/defence organizations and shipyards, supporting design decisions through all project phases.

Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams (structures, systems, safety, integration) to deliver fully integrated frigate designs.

Guide and mentor junior Naval Architects, supporting their development and ensuring knowledge retention within the team.

Depending on the project, lead a small naval architecture team (approx. 2–4 engineers) or take a senior specialist role in larger multidisciplinary projects.

Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree (HBO/WO) in Marine Engineering / Naval Architecture or similar discipline.

5+ years of experience in naval architecture and performing naval engineering calculations.

Strong expertise in concept and basic design, with hands‐on knowledge of stability, resistance/propulsion, seakeeping, and weight control.

Highly analytical, able to solve open-ended technical problems both independently and in collaboration with others.

Confident communicator in Dutch and/or English (spoken and written).

Experience with tools such as NAPA, Hydrostar, Ansys Aqwa, and/or programming (Python/Matlab) is a strong advantage.

EU citizenship is mandatory due to the defence nature of projects.
